Describe your best practice
Meadow Road Neighbourhood Watch in Derbyshire held a coffee, cake and craft morning at a local community centre for residents of our road, family and friends. This was to allow residents to get together, chat over any issues or ideas and get to know their neighbours whilst the children did crafts.

What did you do and why?
We put on all types of craft items for children and grown-ups to do while they had coffee and cake. Cake was donated by residents. We also thought it was a good way of engaging people as if they came to donate a cake they were more likely to stay and mingle.

Duration of the project
Half day

What worked well?
The community came together and made cakes, we had people talking and meeting their neighbours whilst the children took part in all kinds of craft activities including painting, puppet making, glitter work, collage, card making etc.

How did you overcome any challenges?
The venue was the biggest challenge however we were able to secure a community centre for the event.

How did you cover any costs?
All items were donated. Venue held no cost .
