Home Office
The Home Office has been the primary funder of Neighbourhood Watch since 2007 when the first national umbrella organisation for the movement was established. The Home Office continues to fund Neighbourhood Watch Network and provide expertise, advice, support and access to data about national crime trends and Government priorities. Neighbourhood Watch Network and local Neighbourhood Watch groups are supplied with campaign materials and resources provided by Home Office departments to enable them to support national crime prevention campaigns.
Police
While Neighbourhood Watch is not part of or managed by the police, we work to foster strong and positive links with them both locally and nationally. At a national level Neighbourhood Watch is part of the Citizens In Policing family, along with the Special Constabulary, Police Support Volunteers and Cadets. At a national level we work closely with the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), the College of Policing and the Association of Police & Crime Commissioners (APCC). Locally our members and volunteers help to ensure the police meet the needs of their communities and help the police to pass on crime prevention advice. Volunteers are often instrumental in identifying issues of local concern, as well as promoting community cohesion and increasing confidence in local policing. Police staff often contribute resources – most noticeably their time - but also other forms of in-kind support, such as office space or support setting up schemes.
Police & Crime Commissioners
Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are elected representatives who set their local police area's policing priorities and budget and oversee how crime is tackled in a police area. Their aim is to cut crime in their area and to ensure the police is effective. They give the public a voice at the highest level, having the democratic mandate to respond to local people's concerns and being directly accountable to scrutiny of the public. Many Neighbourhood Watch groups work closely with their PCCs to support partnership crime prevention initiatives and bring local community safety concerns to their attention, with several groups receiving funding for projects via their PCC.
National Trading Standards Scams Team
Neighbourhood Watch Network (NWN) has recently become a formal partner of the National Trading Standards Scams Team (NTSST) and we are working to publicise this relationship through both NWN and NTSST channels. David Huse, our Chair of Trustees, will become a Scambassador to champion greater public awareness of fraud prevention and made a pledge to train all staff in Fraud Awareness and encourage completion of the Friends Against Scams online training by our Trustees and members.
Crimestoppers
Our relationship with Crimestoppers and Victim Support is one of collaboration and partnership. Together, we provide a holistic approach to dealing with crime – preventing (Neighbourhood Watch), reporting (Crimestoppers) and supporting (Victim Support).
