As our Neighbourhood Watch Street Coordinator, I recruited 30+ Neighbourhood Watch members as volunteers to get shopping, medication and social chat at a distance for all residents in self isolation in our village of Fobbing. We managed to leaflet every home with my contact details. All my volunteers are on a Whats App group, this enables me to provide a quick response when a resident call in needing supplies.
We have now completed 17 jobs. It works well and residents are very pleased as it takes the worry from them regarding getting food shopping and medication.
Some residents have wanted particular items which are not always available. So now I ask at the front end, to be as generic as possible as to what they want and also are they willing to accept substitutions. This then gives the volunteer some leeway and does not disappoint.
