Like many other schemes, we set up a WhatsApp group a while ago to keep everyone aware of anything suspicious in the neighbourhood. This has worked really well and we have quickly made people alert of any activity. It is also a great way to bring the community together. During the Covid-19 crisis, we have adapted our usual use for the group, to allow us to communicate with neighbours displaying symptoms and are self-isolating.
This has enabled us to provide help to those that need it. We have taken them shopping lists and picked up prescriptions. We have also used to share stock levels in shops to avoid unnecessary shopping trips to encourage stay at home. We are also sharing useful contacts - police contact centres / neighbourhood tweets and so on.
Our community is pulling together, like never before. However, there are some neighbours without access to WhatsApp so I have posted notes through the doors with contact details. We are lucky as these neighbours are generally looked after by the person next door and if they have to self-isolate we will know.
