Andrew Whyte is Chief Executive Designate of the Association of Financial Mutuals.
Before joining AFM Andrew had worked for more than thirty years in senior communications roles across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
A former Vice-President of the National Unions of Students, Andrew kicked off his career in the mid-1980s in campaigning roles at the British Youth Council and Barnardo’s. After that he went on to work in senior communications roles in some high-profile companies - News International (now News UK) where he was Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs and Shell International – before joining the BBC where he was Head of Corporate and Public Relations.
Over the last 15 years Andrew has been Director of Communications four times, at Arts Council England, two government departments – Defra and the Foreign Office – and most recently at the Financial Conduct Authority until April 2021. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of specialist research company Echo Research and is a Chartered Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
Outside his executive career Andrew has served as a non-executive Board member and Trustee of the Media Trust and Community Channel and housing and homelessness organisation Thames Reach.
